Float Assembly
Q. What do I get with a standard float assembly?
A. Float switch, 14-2wire of required length with a piggyback plug, tether strap for attachment to discharge or inlet pipe or other attachment point.
Q. What is the standard amperage rating?
A. 15 amps continuous running.
Q. What is a "piggyback" plug?
A. A "piggyback" plug allows the circuit to be broken when the float assembly is plugged in to a wall outlet. The pump or similar device is plugged in behind the "piggyback" plug, the float unit will open or close a circuit upon required / expected movements of the float unit.
Q. What temperature can this unit operate?
A. The unit is rated for 140 degrees F.
Q. Can this unit operate in antifreeze?
A. Yes, the materials are able to operate up to -20 degrees F. and not decompose in the fluid.
Q. Can I order customized units?
A. Yes, many variations can be created based on your needs… Call for your requirements and a quote.
Q. What is the lead-time for standard units? Custom units?
A. Most standard shipped in 24 hours, custom units (low volume, less than 50) 3 days. High volumes please inquire. Note: Some custom units may not be able to be UL approved
Q. What are "standard units"?
A. 15 amps, 120 volt, 10, 20, 30, 50 foot normally open (empty a tank) or normally closed (fill a tank) with a piggyback plug and tether.
Q. What is a ""both" or "two" position switch?
A. CSH currently produces a unit, which can be wired for either position for relay or low amperage control systems requiring such an option. This unit is made with 16 gauge, 3 conductor wire. No plug is available for this type of unit.
Q. What is the pumping range?
A. This can be controlled by the length / distance of cord between the attachment of the tether and the float unit. Factory setting is approx. 6 inches allowing for approx. 8 to 10 inches of water movement. The unit will operate on approx. 60-degree range of full operation. (30 degrees each direction from horizontal).
Q. Is there a low angle float available?
A. Yes, in 1 amp and 3 amps we can supply a 45-degree operating range unit.
Q. Does turbulence affect operation?
A. No, the unit does not have a "ball" it has a secured weight sliding on a pillar. The unit is not affected by rotation or turbulence.
Q. Why two size of units available?
A. The small canister (2 ½" x 3 ¼") is appropriate for most applications, the larger unit (3 ¼" x 3 ¼") allows for higher buoyancy requirements where sediments or sludge can potentially accumulate.
Alarm Assembly
Q. Is the unit easy to convert from "High" water to "Low" water?
A. Yes, simply open the cover, note diagram and instruction to reverse two (2) wires.
Q. Is this reliable?
A. Yes, the unit is in direct contact with the water, not affected by moisture, corrosion, no false alarms (as may happen with contact type units).
Q. Why AC and DC?
A. Will allow for power failure (DC) The AC will allow for maximum alarm time (indefinite) if out of town, weak battery, and forgotten battery. Also the option of using just AC or just DC.
Q. Will I hear the alarm at a long distance?
A. The alarm has a high pitch 85 to 90 decibel rating, which can be heard throughout the typical home dwelling.
Q. What controls the alarm?
A. The same reliable float unit as described in our brochure.
Frequently asked questions: (FCA2-05 Circuit alarm)
Q. What do I get with a standard alarm?
A. Alarm control unit, 6-foot cord, with a piggyback plug for a standard outlet with a ground, 85 to 90 decibel alarm.
Q. Why a “piggyback” plug?
A. To allow a device or appliance to be plugged in behind the plug if short on availability of outlets.
Q. Do I have to plug into the piggyback plug for the unit to operate?
A. No, the alarm does not require your device or appliance to be plugged into the piggyback plug to function correctly.
Q. Can I use this device outside?
A. No, the device is designed for indoor use only.
Q. My device is slightly warm, is that a problem? Does it use a lot of energy?
A. No, the device will be slightly warm to the touch due to an approximate 2-watt power usage for the operating relay (110volt power detection).
Q. How big of an appliance can I hook up behind the “piggyback plug”?
A. The alarm piggyback plug is designed for 15 amp maximum continuous use only.
Q. How long will the alarm sound (loud) if I am not home for a period of time?
A. As long as 36 hours with an average battery (9-volt), many hours longer with a high quality battery.
General Questions:
Q. How long does it take to ship any of CSH products from order?
A. Generally 24 Business hours for standard items, 72 business hours for custom items under quantities of 20. Quote time for large quantities of either.
Q. What if I am not satisfied with the product?
A. Return for a full refund (less shipping).
Q. Will I ever get an answer if I send a question through your website? Many websites take days…
A. We will answer in 24 to 48 business hours or less in many cases, same as leaving a voice mail question. Please leave contact information.
